With temperatures in most parts of the world starting to fall, there are few places still appropriate for sailing holidays. Miami is one such place. With warm temperatures year round, Miami winter weather is still suitable for going to the beach, one of Miami’s main draws. There are also plenty of festivals and events to keep you occupied, including sailboat races. One of these, the Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta, is specifically aimed at getting more young people involved in sailing. Even if you aren’t interested in festivals and events or the beach, you can always admire the magnificent Miami skyline or set sail for downtown Miami or Coconut Grove. The possibilities are endless. In this blog post, we will tell you the best things to do while on your winter Miami boating adventure.
Everglades National Park Exploration
The Everglades National Park is a divine place to visit all year round but many actually prefer it during winter. In the winter, you don’t have to worry about the bugs and humidity that are present throughout the summer months. People who like hiking will have a great time here as there are many hiking trails suitable for all levels. Some of the trails, such as the Gator Hook Trail, even give you the opportunity to hike through water.
This stunning National Park is a place of great natural beauty and is home to plenty of wildlife. A few of the species you can see here include the American alligator, the turkey vulture, and even a few different species of eagle. Stopping off at the Everglades during your winter Miami boating trip is sure to be pleasing for the whole family.
Snorkeling in Florida Keys
We won’t go into lots of detail on this because we have a whole blog post dedicated to snorkeling in Florida Keys. However, being just a short distance away from Miami, the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo is worth a mention. This is one of the best places to go snorkeling in the world and is home to many marine species. A few of the species you can look forward to seeing there include arrow crabs, great barracuda, and parrotfish.
Miami International Boat Show
In 2022, this spectacular nautical display will run from the 16th-20th of February and is definitely worth a visit. There is always lots of entertainment and music which is good fun in itself. However, there are also lots of more on topic, fun yet educational events available. Some of these include ocean conservation lectures, on-water training, a boat related jobs fair, and even special events aimed at introducing children to the nautical world.
The International Chocolate Festival
This mouthwatering event takes place every year in Coral Gables. In 2022, it will run from the 15th-16th of January and there are many different activities to look forward to, including chocolate tasting and cooking demonstrations. While not directly related to Miami boating, it is still worth looking in on this event. After all, who doesn’t love chocolate?
The Night Garden Event at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden
This is another event that takes place in Coral Gables and we’ve saved the best event to visit while on your winter Miami boating adventure until last. This is a holiday event which runs all throughout the winter months, and combines art, food, and drinks to create something truly magical. Some of the events you can see here include lighting displays, special effects shows, illuminated mazes, holograms and sculptures. There are even special events and exhibitions for children, including optical illusions, talking trees and scavenger hunts. You don’t need to worry about getting hungry either. Local eateries provide food and drink throughout the event.
